This emigration is not made of a sudden, but several waves, although most Albanians colonies were founded after 1468, the year of death of 'national hero, Skanderbeg. The migration continued on several occasions during the next centuries, until 1744, when it was founded Villa Badessa, in Abruzzo. In the fifteenth century, before and especially after the 'Ottoman invasion and the fall of Shkoder (1479), there are also passages groups of Albanian migrants in Venice, where they formed a thriving colony, and in the territories subject to the Serenissima. They found in these new lands a favorable cultural environment that allowed them to express an important and original contribution of works and ideas in 'scope of Renaissance European humanists John, Paul and Andrea Gazulli, Michele Marullo, Marino Barlezio, Nicholas Tomeo, Marino Becichemi and Michele Artioti, the sculptor Andrea Alessi, painters Vittore Carpaccio and Marco Basaiti belong to this group of Albanian intellectuals forced to abandon their homeland d 'origin and to emigrate to Italy following the dramatic events that have followed in the Balkans during the fifteenth century.

Other nuclei were allocated mainly in Puglia, but also in Calabria and Sicily in feuds that Scanderbeg and other Albanian leaders had obtained from the King of Naples, Alfonso I d 'Aragon, in exchange of' military aid that had provided during the continuing struggles against local barons. Apart from the territories of the Venetian Republic, who was for many centuries linked to 'Albania by narrow political and commercial relations,' Albanian emigration was directed especially in coastal regions of the kingdom of Naples (Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily) geographical proximity but also because of the good relations existing between the Kastrioti and King of Naples House d 'Aragon. The Albanians in Italy or ripopolarono founded nearly a hundred communities, most of them concentrated in Calabria. The Albanian immigrants were here colonies of peasants and soldiers which was given full administrative autonomy; was granted to establish or repopulate new villages, having concluded favourable "chapters" with the lords of the place. With immigration Albanian assists in Calabria and in the South in general, to a new phase of demographic expansion, which accentuates the end of'400 and continues through the first half of'500.
