Durres is the second largest city of Albania. It was founded by Greek colonists and Corfu Corinth in 627 BC In antiquity was known by the name of Epidamnos and later was called Dyrrachion. The amphitheatre
is his most important monument; has a capacity of 15,000 spectators and is the largest of the Balkans; built in the second century AD, contains a crypt and Christian mosaics rare. Between the first and third century, Durres was an important port and a commercial center along the Via Egnatia, between Rome and Byzantium (Constantinople). After many earthquakes, a large part of Durres sank in the sea or collapsed and was subsequently built over the ruins. Today the city is known for the nearby beach of Durres and for the warm marine waters.
