Berati is known as the "city full of windows" and is classified as a city-museum. It is built in front and on slopes of Mount Tomorr. Within the castle walls are dwelling houses and also the "Onufri Museum" , Which contains objects iconographic paintings and religious Onufri, one of the greatest painters Albanians in the sixteenth century. In the old part of town are some important religious buildings such as churches and mosques.

Berat is another important city museum in Albania and sometimes is called 'the city of a thousand windows' to for many windows in his house from the roof red. On top of the mountain overlooking the gorge there is a citadel of the XIV century which houses some small Orthodox churches, such as the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Church of the Evangelists. On the slope below the citadel stands the Muslim old quarter of Mangalem. A stone bridge with seven arches leads to Gorica, the Christian quarter. In town there are many very beautiful mosques, as the Lead Mosque, the Mosque of the King, the Mosque of Scapolo and Alveti Tekke, a small temple from which in the past officiavano their seven Islamic celebrations as the dervish. Berat is located 122 km southeast of Tirana; travel by bus between the two cities lasts three ore.orica along the river Osum
